Rev. Don VanVoorhis

Pastor Somerville Methodist Church

Rev. Don VanVoorhis

I am a lifelong Methodist. Being an Air Force “brat”, I have lived in many places - Spokane, Washington, Topeka, Kansas, England, Wichita, Kansas, Aurora, Colorado and Birmingham, Alabama, where I finished high school and graduated from Samford University with a double major in Religion and German.

After college I worked for the Comptroller of the Currency. During this time my family and I lived in Little Rock, Nashville and Bartlett. We joined Bartlett UMC in 1977 and have maintained our membership there ever since.

I have served churches as a Supply Pastor and have been assigned to several churches as Student Pastor or Licensed Local Pastor. I graduated from Memphis Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 2005. I am currently a Retired Local Pastor serving at the Bishop’s appointment here at SFUMC.

Becky and I live in Bartlett, TN, and have two standard poodles, Cody and Sophie. Our two adult children Randy (Kelley) and Robin (Glen) and their families also live in Bartlett. We have three grandsons: Henry, a senior at Christian Brothers University; John, a freshman at the University of Alabama; and Mark, a junior at Bartlett High School. My mother turned 100 years old on April 1, 2021 and lives in Tulsa, OK.

I am honored to be the pastor of this loving, caring and very active congregation. If I can be of assistance to any of you please do not hesitate to contact me.

Remember, in all things and at all times, to God be the glory!
