The Pastor's Corner - May 2023

The Vision Newsletter: Notes from the Pastor's Desk

May I introduce you to May? Well, we are already there. Another school year is ending, summer break is beginning, Vacation Bible School is just around the corner, and we turn another page on this year’s calendar. Hopefully you will be with us as we close the Spring Bible Study with a review of the book “Forgotten God” by Francis Chan. It is a wonderful book to bring our attention back to God’s precious gift of the Holy Spirit. We have an introduction to this study on April 26th but begin with chapter 1 on May 3rd. Hope to see many of you at this study. (We will be livestreaming it on Facebook.)

We welcome our new maintenance man Alan Boyer to our staff. Please, if you see him, introduce yourself to him. I think many of you already know Alan, since he is from the Somerville area. The office has a form for you to request any special assistance from Allen, in an attempt to keep his job more structured.

Our Transition Committee is hard at work attempting to keep pace with the needs of the church as we become independent on June 1, 2023. There is much to be done and several meetings will be called over the next couple of months to be sure everything is done properly. As all of this unfolds, please provide me and/or any of the committee members with your input/feedback. We must always keep our eyes upon Jesus as we travel the path that he has laid before us. Every attempt is being made to be true to the Scriptures, our Wesleyan traditions, Reason and to follow the Holy Spirit.

As we strive to keep our programs true to our beliefs and at the same time to reach the community, you can be of great assistance. Please let your friends and neighbors know about what is going on at our church. Let them know that everyone is welcome and that we are all on the same journey to love God and neighbor. If you hear comments from our community, please pass them on to us. We are all in this together, and are all working for God’s glory.

I would also ask that you keep our church in your prayers during this period. Please ask God to keep us in the palm of his hand and to bless this church with his wonderful Holy Spirit. Ask that he create in us a clean heart and put a new and right spirit within us. (Psalm 51:10)

Grace and Peace to All,

Bro Don VanVoorhis
