The Pastor's Corner - April 22

The Vision Newsletter: Notes from the Pastor's Desk

Easter is here. As everything greens up and the weather settles down, it is hard to wake up without joy in your heart. We should find joy for all of God’s beautiful creation, and joy for the life that God has given to us. We have several events scheduled that are related to Easter. We start our celebration with a combined service (8:30 am and 10:55 am will meet together at 10:55 am) for Palm Sunday on April 10th. We follow this special Sunday with our Lenten luncheons, Monday through Wednesday. These luncheons will begin at noon and should be over by 1:00 pm. We will have a light lunch, a brief devotional, and some special music. This is open to the public. Our scheduled speakers are Pastor Karen Wagenhals (Parks Chapel UMC), Pastor Greg Emory (First Presbyterian), and me. Hope to see you all there.

Of course, we conclude our Easter activities with Easter weekend. Saturday, the 16th of April, we will enjoy a Pancake Breakfast (provided by the United Methodist Men), a community Easter Egg Hunt, and other exciting events in the CAC. This all starts with the breakfast at 8 am and concludes with the Egg Hunt starting at 10 am. Do not miss this! Fun will be had by all. Sunday, we will celebrate Easter with a combined service at 10:55 am. We will have special music, including three anthems and the children’s choir. We anticipate decorating our sanctuary with beautiful Easter lilies. Please order your lily early so we can be sure the florist can get them to us on time. (Order forms are in each bulletin, or you can call the church office to order the lilies.)

As we continue into April, we have our annual Methodist Men’s fish fry on the Friday after Easter (April 22). Plan on getting your delicious catfish dinner with white beans, fries, etc. starting at 4:30 pm going through 7 pm.

Details on all these events are provide elsewhere in this Newsletter. Be sure to review all the opportunities and bring a friend. God is good to us here at Somerville First UMC and we want to share that goodness with as many people as we can.

Our Wednesday activities will continue through April and then will pick up again with the first Wednesday in September. We just completed a study on the Ten Commandments. The food has been great and the fellowship warm. Do join us as you are able.

We send out our weekly bulletin through email. If you would like to get this electronic copy of the bulletin each week, please let the church office know. We only need a valid email to get this started. In the bulletin you will find upcoming events, our prayer list and other important information. Also, please do not hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Blessings and peace
